  The shelter was declared 'nucleo zoologico' on may-7 of 2002, and collaborates with the council for agriculture, fishery and food of the government of Valencia. It is a non-profit organisation where all positions are honorary. Its sole purpose is the protection and defense of animals. It OPOSES and CONDEMNS any abuse, agression or injustice against animals. No matter from where it comes or from whom. No matter who acclaims it or who stimulates it. No matter who justifies it, who tolerates or allows it. No matter who takes part in it or spreads it. A soft legislation is and will continue to be the best ally of those, who, unfortunately so, allow our country to be distinguished for its brutality. SPAX disposes thanks to the first donation by Roberto Cortes of its own animal shelter in the community of Xativa (Valencia). Later, Francisco Aguado facilitated the acquisition of a neighbouring terrain and the installation and final founding. SPAX ONLY RECEIVES DOGS. Due to the lack of economical and human resources SPAX does not receive cats, since they can not be offered a decent life in captivity and the few, saturated temporary foster homes in no way can alleviate the serious problems these animals suffer. We wish only RESPONSABLE ADOPTIONS, and we are completely against any “live” christmas, birthday or other presents. We are tired of the indifference of the public authorities with respect to the injustice against these animals that are reported to them. We are also weary of the useless or whimsical owners, who abandon their animals and who don't care what could happen to them, and of those, who irresponsably throw animals over the fence of the shelter, or leave them, tied, to their fate. And we are tired of all the older animals that DIE FROM SADNESS OR PAIN, and many times we can not do anything to prevent it. Neither age nor physical state have ever nor will they ever be an obstacle for an animal to stay in our shelter, but we will pay particular attention to elder abandonned animals or puppies. For these cases temporary foster homes are absolutely vital for us. We are convinced that the STERILIZATION is the only way to prevent undesired litters, that fill the municipal dog pounds and streets with death and blood, and we are convinced, that the public must be educated and sensitized about the quiete and bleeding drama, that this country is living every day. We trust in the VOLUNTARY HELP as a key element for the functioning of this society and our survival depends on the members, benefactors, private or company donations and the APU. No type of help, support or collaboration, be it from the public authorities nor from individuals will have an influence on this philosophy or our way of thinking and acting. We do not send animals to other countries in the european community, except, there is the possibility of a control and monitoring. We believe there should be sufficient good and responsible foster families in spain. Furthermore we insist in personal presence at the shelter for the adoptation formalities. To those who help us, individuals as well als companies, we want to thank that they have supported our work until now, and that they have trusted us over all the years. To those, who have come here the first time, if you can not give the animals the opportunity that they are waiting for so much, and that they deserve so much, we would only like to say, that the animals at least would deserve to live a little bit better with your help.
